DIGITAL EXPERIMENTATION:
A formal study based on interWEAVING strands generating non-euclidean geometries. The process experiments with the concept of weaving however unlike traditional weaving there is never a beginning or end; the geometries intertwines connecting back in on itself. The weaves were explored and enhanced through further twisting, stretching and pinching producing a range of results. |
[ PHYSICAL EXPERIMENTATION ]
A selection of the digital iterations were then sampled for experimentation for physical fabrication. Two methods were used. The first range of experiments were fabricated on a CNC router (modela) using gold foam. The restrictions of the three axis machine were evident as only one view and one side of the object could be fabricated. Due to the limitations of the three axis machine it was not an accurate representation however it did produce some interesting results. The second method used was 3D rapid prototyping which is almost limitless and almost 100% accurate; the iterations fabricated were identical to their digital versions producing no surprises but only allude to the possibilities. |
