Processes included digitally decaying elements from the site through the manipulation of their binary code. This process was used to alter these ephemeral moments before feeding them into a digital algorithm to generate form and structure on the site. Each moment formed the loci of a voronoi cell which represented an area of program. These cells then underwent another series of manipulation and decay blurring the boundaries of each cell representing an overlap in program. These abstracted formed were used to generate internal forms and structures using parametric definitions to interpret these codes.
The project resulted in an experimental solution leading onto areas of research I intend to explore further in my thesis.
With the introduction of a new public transport system to serve central Wellington, a new Southern Transport Hub is required to facilitate these services.

Under the proposal using the BiWay system, Wellington will require a 'Southern Hub' to service the south bound routes, providing commuter facilities as well as the unification of the Biway carriages. Cambridge and Kent Terrace have some of the only remaining large lots left in the Central Business District currently occupied by car yards. Theses lots are in an ideal location for a southern hub as the roads are wide and it is just before the two routes spilt.
SPACE PLANNING - FACILITIES
Concept Sketch - Quick sketch showing the massing on each side of the road connected by an overbridge to access the central transport platform.
Digital Modelling - Translating conceptual form to digital mass.
The form is based on creating two masses on either lot. An over bridge is required to connect the two masses so this lofted form has been conceptualised based on these logics. The crucial function of this building as been neglected as no platform has been incorporated into the form so the next set of experiments looks at including this into the form.

Voronoi Space Planning
|
Using the space bubble diagrams above, I have input the data into a definition which subdivides the floor plates into spaces based on the programme required. As shown in the diagrams, cells also represent negative space so these cells can be removed to provide atrium and circulation spaces. |

Internal Structure
This definition applies structure to the voronoi grid along with the structure required to support the floor plates. The definition creates extra structure at the nodes as required.

Floor Plates
Using the voronoi space division, I have sectioned through each cell to provide perpendicular the floor plates. The fragmented nature of the floors plates creates an interesting flow through the building however results in an overly complicated construction and programme.

Ribbon Louvre Skin
This definition breaks the loft into separate surfaces before applying parametrically driven 'louvre' system. In it's current form the system is applied to the whole building exterior. |
The way in which the form is modelled means the louvres "ribbons" run from one end to the other. This development aims to gain control over which sections have louvres. The original definition had a parametric ability to rotate the louvres. However this kinetic aspect was extremely unplausable. In order to create a more realistic solution, each ribbon is broken into sections which can be individually rotated This does break its fluid continuity. Materially could be explored in order to create a more continuous ribbon like louvre with an elastic material threaded through checkpoints to hold its form and still able to rotate independently at certain points.
